Westerhope Golf Club Ladies Section

On behalf of Westerhope Ladies Section we would like to offer you a warm welcome. The ladies’ section has been in existence since the club opened in 1941 and at that time, they formed a larger percentage of the total membership due to the absence of male golfers who were serving in the war.

We are not in a similar position today, however, we do have a vibrant lady’s section which is expanding due to our Get into Golf Programme. We welcome ladies of all ages and abilities and whether a novice or an experienced player, Westerhope Golf Club is a friendly and beautiful place to play golf and socialise.

Playing Schedule, Opens & Outings:
The ladies section play their competitions on Tuesdays with some competitions also being played on Thursdays and Saturdays. We also have 9-hole competitions and during the winter months we run an eclectic competition. We also hold mixed competitions which run throughout the year and there is also plenty of opportunities for social golf.

We have one team in the County League as well as fielding a T.R. Percy and Norah Percy team which is specifically for ladies with higher handicaps. Every year we hold an Open and an “Away Day” usually in September which is always well attended and a great day out.

Ladies Academy:
We have recently launched a Get into Golf Programme which has proved to be very popular. We offer a buddy system and specific tee times on a Sunday afternoon together with several social activities to help to fully integrate into the Club.

Whether you can golf or not why don't you come join us at the Westerhope Golf Club, for more information please contact our Ladies Captain Sue Williams at 07710 418780 or susan.williams54@me.com

Communication:
We have a WhatsApp Group so every lady in the section can communicate with each other, which is very important and this platform is used to keep every member fully informed of what is happening in the ladies’ section, together with the issue of a monthly newsletter.

Quote from our Ladies Captain, Sue Williams:
I am honoured to be the Lady Captain of Westerhope Golf Club. I only took up golf in 2019 when I retired, and I chose Westerhope because of the friendliness of everyone within the club and in particular the wonderful welcome from the ladies. I feel very fortunate to have made lifelong friendships and cannot emphasise how much enjoyment being a member of Westerhope Golf Club has given me.

I am always available for a chat if anyone is interested in learning more about our section. My contact details are:

Our Committee:
The section is run by the ladies committee, and they are all very approachable are always on hand to discuss any aspect of the ladies’ section. Two of the committee members have recently participated in an Activator Course run by England Golf, which has provided them with the necessary skills to support the PGA Coach. They are now able to set up, supervise and deliver non-technical games and activities within the golf facility.

Ladies Charter:
We are delighted to announce that England Golf and the R&A have awarded Westerhope Golf Club “Women in Golf Charter” status after we submitted a detailed document to them explaining our intentions to help grow female participation and develop a more inclusive culture within golf for more women and girls to develop across all levels of the sport.
